THE SULTANATE OF OMAN

Diplomatic relations were established on 24 March 1984. Both side have also set up embassies in their respective capitals (Muscat on 1 February 1990 and Bandar Seri Begawan on 25 August 1986). The Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Oman is His Excellency Haji Sulaini bin Haji Said. The Ambassador of Oman to Brunei Darussalam is His Excellency Sheikh Ahmad bin Hashil bin Rashid Al-Maskari.

Brunei Darussalam and the Sultanate of Oman signed the following MOUs/Agreements:

  • MOU on the Field of Information Exchange and Mutual Cooperation between Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) and the Capital Market Authority Sultanate of Oman (CMAO) (23 January 2017)
  • MOU in the Field of Information (3 October 2013)
  • Renewal of the MOU on Cultural Cooperation (10 April 2012)
  • Agreement to establish the Oman – Brunei Investment Holding Company (9 June 2009)
  • MOU on the establishment of a Joint Investment Fund (16 April 2009)
  • MOU between the Ministry of Health of Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Health of the Sultanate of Oman (10 February 2009)
  • Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income (25 February 2008)
  • MOU in the fields of High Education, Education and Training between Brunei LNG and Oman LNG (29 October 2007)
  • MOU in all fields of service to Culture and Heritage (15 June 2004)
  • MOU between the UBD and the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) (22 January 2003)
  • Agreement on Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Foreign Investment (8 June 1998)
  • MOU on Trade and Commerce between Brunei Darussalam's National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Omani Chamber of Commerce and Industry (29 October 1997)

A Joint Working Group known as "Bilateral Consultative Meeting" was established in 1993 with the purpose of strengthening bilateral relations. Various areas of cooperation have been identified in areas such as trade and investment; oil and gas; education; air services; municipality; religious matters; agriculture and fisheries; culture and information.

The 1st Brunei Darussalam-Oman Joint Committee Meeting was held in Bandar Seri Begawan in June 2010.
