  • Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia established diplomatic relations in January 1984.

  • Both sides enjoy excellent cooperation various areas including economic, education, defence, tourism, culture, sports and health.

  • The Leaders of Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia have met regularly under the Annual Leaders’ Consultations (ALC) since 1997. The 21st ALC was held in Bandar Seri Begawan on 23 November 2017. 

  • There are flights between Brunei Darussalam to Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu (Operating airlines – Royal Brunei Airlines (RB), Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and Air Asia). RB and MAS have codeshare agreement inked on 26 March 2017 in which travellers from both countries are able to purchase their flights to Langkawi, Penang, Alor Star, Kota Bahru, Johor Bahru (Operating airlines – MAS and Air Asia).

​His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended the Royal Banquet held in conjunction with the coronation of His Majesty Sultan Muhammad V as the 15th Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia at the Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur.

​His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended the Sarawak Regatta 2017 in Kuching, Sarawak.

​His Majesty accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Mateen, attended the funeral ceremony of Yang Amat Mulia Enche’ Besar Johor Hajah Kalsom binti Abdullah, the late mother of Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, Sultan Johor Darul Ta’zim in Johor.

​Nov 2017​Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman, the then-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia made a Working Visit to Brunei Darussalam.


Former Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Najib attended the 21st ALC in Bandar Seri Begawan.

Jun 2018​YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Shafie bin Apdal, the Chief Minister of Sabah and his wife, Yang Amat Berbahagia Datin Seri Shuryani binti Shuaib made a Working Visit to Brunei Darussalam.
