Republic of Korea



  • ​​Brunei Darussalam (BD) and the Republic of Korea (ROK) established diplomatic relations on 1 January 1984. The ROK is the​ 4th country to establish diplomatic ties with BD. 
  • 15 September 1983: The ROK set up a Consulate General in Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) which was raised to Ambassadorial level when BD gained independence on 1 January 1984. 
  • 20 February 1987: BD established its Embassy in Seoul.
  • ​BD and the ROK enjoy excellent cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, energy, infrastructure, ICT, education, and people – to – people exchanges.

High-Level Visits to the ROK

  • His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam visited the ROK 6 times in 1984, 2000, 2005, 2009, 2014 and 2019.
  • His Royal Highness (HRH) Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah visited the ROK in 2002.
  • HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah visited the ROK 4 times in 1986, 1989, 2000, and 2014.
  • HRH Princess Hajah Masna visited the ROK in 2005.
  • HRH Prince Sufri Bolkiah visited the ROK twice in 2002 and 2014.​


High-Level Visits to BD
  • President Roh Tae-woo made a State Visit in 1988.
  • President Kim Dae-jung made a State Visit and attended the AELM in BD in 2000.
  • President Kim Dae-jung attended the ASEAN Plus Three Summit in 2001.
  • President Park Geun-hye attended the 23rd ASEAN and Related Summits in BD in 2013.
  • President Moon Jae-in made a State Visit in 2019.
