BRUNEI DARUSSALAM – CHINA CONSULTATIVE MEETING ON TRADE, INVESTMENT AND ECONOMIC COOPERATION (COMTIEC)

The Brunei Darussalam – China Consultative Meeting on Trade, Investment and Economic Cooperation (COMTIEC) was set up in 2008 through an exchange of Memorandum of Understanding (M.O.U) between the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources of Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China in 2004, as part of efforts to find ways to achieve the bilateral trade target of US$1 billion by 2010. It is led at the Permanent Secretary level.

The COMTIEC aims for both countries to exchange views on the current status of trade and economic cooperation, as well as latest developments in other areas of cooperation such as trade and investment, agriculture, tourism, fisheries, telecommunications, infrastructure, energy and Halal Food products and processing and brand accreditation. The COMTIEC also act as a platform for both sides to discuss issues on regional economic cooperation such as ASEAN-China, APEC, ASEM, BIMP-EAGA and Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Cooperation. ​

To date, four (4) COMTIEC have been held in alternate countries as follows:
The 1st COMTIEC  ​: 25 April 2008 in Hangzhou, China;
The 2nd COMTIEC : 23 April 2011 in Brunei Darussalam;
The 3rd COMTIEC : 21 March 2013 in Beijing, China;
The 4th COMTIEC : 18 April 2016 in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.​​
